Alert Iowa Messaging Info

Effective June 1, 2021 the Alert Iowa vendor will change to Smart911. To Sign up or check your account for accuracy you may click here Sign Up Smart911 or click on the Iowa Alert Icon below.

Alert Iowa is a statewide mass notification and emergency messaging system. The system can be used by state and local authorities to quickly disseminate emergency information to residents in counties that utilize the system.
The system is available, free of charge, to all counties, however, they are not required to use the system.

Alert Iowa will allow citizens to sign up for the types of alerts they would like to receive. The best way to receive messages is via text message. Messages may contain photo, video and audio attachments to help subscribers better understand the situation at hand, or where to find additional information.

Questions should be directed to the Fremont County Emergency Management Office, 712-374-3355 or by email at mcrecelius@co.fremont.ia.us.

Be Ready Iowa

State and local emergency management officials, along with the National Weather Service, stress the continued need and importance of education and preparedness for severe weather that may affect Iowans. Knowing what to do in advance can
help prevent unnecessary panic and confusion when severe weather does strike. Learn the warning signals used in your community and put together an emergency supply kit that includes a flashlight, battery operated radio, extra batteries, and
simple first aid items in a waterproof container. See www.BeReadyIowa.org, for more information on how to create a family emergency plan and supply kit.

For more information about severe weather preparedness, Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division at 515-725-3231 or visit www.BeReadyIowa.org.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster
preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Visit https://www.ready.gov/citizen-corps for a complete description of CERT.
